On July 1, Young-Jin Kim, president of KDG, was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon (Das Verdienstkreuz am Bande) from the Federal Republic of Germany. The Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon is the decoration of the German government that honors individuals with distinguished service in the fields of politics, economics, society and philanthropic activity. The Cross of Merit is the only decoration awarded to non-public servants. The late Dr. Young-Sup Huh, the 6th president of KDG, was also awarded the Federal Cross of Merit in 2005.<!--?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /-->
Committed to promoting the relations and economic cooperation between Korea and Germany, Kim has been serving as president of KDG, a private organization for mutual exchange and cooperation between Korea and Germany, since 2010. He also served as a board member and the 5th chairman of the Korean-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The award of the Federal Cross of Merit marks the recognition of KDG’s commitment to mutual exchange and cooperation between two countries in such initiatives as German-Korean Forum and Mirok-Li Awards.
“As the credit should also go to KDG members who have always been very supportive to take KDG forward, I would like to thank all KDG members,” said President Kim. “The Cross of Merit is a reminder for us to work even harder to further improve the tie between two countries.”
Shin-Kwon Kim, his late father and the founder of Handok, was also awarded the decoration from the German government. Former Chairman Kim was the first person in the domestic pharmaceutical industry to receive the Great Cross of Merit (Großes Verdienstkreuz), the highest honor given to foreigners in the private sector, in 1987 for his distinguished contribution to the promotion of economic collaboration between two countries through technology collaboration (1957) and joint venture (1964) with Hoechst, leading chemical and life-science company based in Germany.
We would like to congratulate all on this meaningful and honorable occasion for not only President Kim but also all KDG members.
